Hebrews 11:13-16 — You're not my homeland...

READ THIS: Hebrews 11:13-16

13 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth. 14 People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. 15 If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

We just went over 5 different people, covering literally half of Genesis. Each person wasn't living a faithful life to God because they loved their current life. They walked with God because they loved Him, no matter the circumstances, whether their brother was a jealous guy or they had to live in a confined boat for weeks upon weeks or they couldn't have a kid. They still loved and walked with God! This land and this country and this world isn't the best gift God has for us. He has Himself and the land He will create for us.

When we understand and believe that, we can't help but long for that heavenly home with God. Our longing for that home helps us make this world look a little bit like heaven as we make decisions with God in mind! That's part of what God loves to see His children do!

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. Would you still have faith in God if you didn't see something that He promised happen in your lifetime?

2. So far, whose faith has stood out to you the most between Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and Sarah?

TRY THIS:

Act as if you were a person from another country today. Look around and see the world as if it's not your home!

SONG OF THE WEEK:

Listen and think again about how you would describe faith based on the people you learned about this week!
