Hebrews 13:1-6 — Last Chapter Alert!!!
READ THIS: Hebrews 13:1-6
1 Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. 2 Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. 3 Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.
4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”
WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?
These verses come out of the author just saying that we are going to live in God's Kingdom one day, so we should worship God! It would make sense for these verses to follow the same logic. We should do the things the author encourages us to do because it is fitting for God's Kingdom! The author encourages us to:
- love one another
- be hospitable
- remember the imprisoned and mistreated
- honor marriage and keep marriage bed activities between people married to each other
- be content, especially when it comes to finances
Sometimes, actually doing the above things makes us look weird to other people. But, the truth is, it's better to look weird to people who won't always stick with us than it is to ignore the encouragements of a God who will never leave us and will always help us.
THINK ABOUT IT:
1. Which two things from the five above are the hardest for you to do? Why? What would help you want to do them?
2. Which two things from the five above are the easiest for you to do? Why? How can you help other believers do these things?

SONG OF THE WEEK:
I have not done anything for prisoners, maybe I could change that, but I don’t know how to go about it.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely different today than back then. Prisoners depended on outsiders to make sure they had the things they need. We have it more centralized. BUT, that being said, there are a lot of prison ministries, from pen pals to sponsoring etc. If you google "prison ministry" there are so many options, in case you want to explore!
