Hebrews 12:11-14 — #relatable

READ THIS: Hebrews 12:11-14

11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. 12 Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. 13 “Make level paths for your feet,” so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.

14 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

The first verse of this makes me laugh a little because it just shows how little humans have changed throughout the times- #relatable. No one necessarily likes being disciplined but similar to yesterday, we can learn from the Bible that in the grand scheme of things, it will help train us to be better disciples of Christ! Also, verse 12 made me think of the lyric from Jesus Loves Me, "We are weak but He is strong." God knows we are incapable of doing it all by ourselves but when we lean on Him, we will find strength (Isaiah 40:31). Something Jordan Goodie said recently in a prayer was, "You make crooked lines into straight paths," and I think that really describes well the character of God that is being displayed in verse 13. Lastly, verse 14 is freaking bars. In the beatitudes, Jesus says "blessed are the peacemakers," we are called to live in harmony and unity with each other! And it's not just because it's nice to be nice, only through our holy actions will the kingdom of God be revealed to others! So, it is imperative to live with holiness.

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. Has there ever been a time you have had to lean on God? If yes, how did that go? If not, what did you do instead?

2. How are you actively making an effort to live in holiness? What does that even look like?

TRY THIS:

Look up the lyrics of Jesus Loves Me and think about what they really mean for you outside of being a little kid song!

SONG OF THE WEEK:

Holiness is part of what makes God, God! He is set apart, and one day, we will all sing that together! And we can start now by singing this song.
