Hebrews 11:8-10 — Promised Land
READ THIS: Hebrews 11:8-10
8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?
So, Abraham doesn't even know the name of the place he's heading to. He just has to go and find out at some point. He lives in tents to be able to move where God directs, just like his descendants have to as well. Part of why Abraham does this is explained back in that Yellow Car Devo. He's living for something beyond this world and what we see. He is living for the promises of God! On this earth, he may have been living in tents, but he had faith that one day there would be a better home. That home is actually talked about in Revelation 21-22. Abraham, from the first book of the Bible, had faith in what isn't even fully talked about until the last book of the Bible. That's faith!
THINK ABOUT IT:
1. What do you think of when you think of an inheritance? As a child of God, what do you think you inherit?
2. Is there a time when you think God asked you to do something and you didn't understand it? Did you do it? Why or why not?
TRY THIS:
Write on your hand "Promised Land." Whenever something about your day in this land goes wrong or irritating-ly, look at your hand and think about what a day in the Promised Land might be like.
