Hebrews 6:10-15 — MAXIMUM EFFORT!

READ THIS: Hebrews 6:10-15

10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. 11 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. 12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

13 When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, 14 saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” 15 And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

These verses speak a lot about God's character, but they also point out how we should be living because of God's character. The first thing we learn about God is that he is just! He doesn't forget the good we are doing for His kingdom, and He also doesn't forget the evil that is done by us here on earth. BUT, we also know God is loving! He forgives us when we come to Him with our mistakes and helps us. But the big word to describe God that I want you to focus on is in Verse 11: diligence. Diligence is described as "steady, energetic effort." God gives us an energetic, constant effort in the way that He cares for us... He never loves us with minimal effort!

Because of that, the author tells us that we should show the same diligence that God has for us in our own lives, not being lazy in our faith, but patiently and faithfully waiting for the ultimate gift that God promises us: eternal life with Him in heaven! The author compares our own waiting to Abraham, who also faithfully followed God and ultimately received every promise that God gave him because of it. Like Abraham, it is our job (from now till eternity) to give every effort that we have toward our relationship with God. Through that, we can then go out and love others with the same diligence God has toward us!

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. How have you seen God give you ALL of His effort through the way He loves you?

2. What is one way you can start giving God more of your effort in your relationship with Him?

TRY THIS:

When I think of the word "effort," I think of working out! So, for the next three days at least, I want you to do a tiny workout! It could be 10 pushups, 25 jumping jacks, or something like that... but during the workout, I want you to also think about how you can put more effort into spending time with Jesus daily!

SONG OF THE WEEK:

Listen to this song and think about if Jesus is the one you have been waiting for!
