Hebrews 10:19-23 — The Most Holy Place

READ THIS: Hebrews 10:19-23

19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

This passage is FIRE! Just saying...

First, we are given an incredible visual. Imagine sitting in a temple, longing to draw near to God, but not being able to. But suddenly, the massive curtain that was blocking our way to the full presence of God is suddenly torn open, and now we can confidently walk in! That's quite literally what happened when Jesus died for us on the cross, but it also happened spiritually!

When Jesus died, the curtain to the Most Holy Place was torn, and so was the spiritual divide between us and God caused by sin. Jesus allows us to confidently draw near to God forever! So... what should we do about it? This passage tells us that we should draw near to God, leave our guilt and shame behind, and hold onto our faith in Jesus no matter what!

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. What do you think it looks like to approach God confidently in worship? In prayer? In our daily lives?

2. How does the temple's curtain tearing apart show how much Jesus loves us?

SONG OF THE WEEK:

Listen to this song. Imagine the confidence of going from being an orphan and nameless to having a Father who names you personally! What would a conversation with someone like that look like?
