Luke 24:46-53 — THE END OF LUKE

READ THIS: Luke 24:46-53

46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. 52 Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53 And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

Welcome to the end of Luke! Congratulations to those of you who stuck all the way through! You have read a full gospel account of Jesus!

Here, we see Jesus' final words to His disciples. Whatever someone's final words are tend to be the thing that they want people to remember the most. He wants us to remember that the Bible itself declared in advance that Jesus would have to suffer and be resurrected, but then after that, people would be able to preach about how He forgave us our sins. He then tells the disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they are given power from God. That power, we learn in Luke, is the Holy Spirit.

For us, we are called to join in on that mission to bring the good news of repentance and forgiveness of sins to everyone we can. Also, in response to who Jesus is, we are called to worship!

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. After reading all of Luke, what has stood out to you the most? What do you think of when you think of this book, now? What do you think of when you think of Jesus?

2. How can you bring the good news to others? How can you worship Jesus?

TRY THIS:

Go out and do what you were called to! Use your answers to question 2 to help you do so!!
