Luke 22:7-13 — All Part of the Plan
READ THIS: Luke 22:7-13
7 Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. 8 Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.”9 “Where do you want us to prepare for it?” they asked.
10 He replied, “As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters, 11 and say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 12 He will show you a large room upstairs, all furnished. Make preparations there.”
13 They left and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.
WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?
These verses are setting up one of the most famous scenes in the life of Jesus... the Last Supper! This passage shows Jesus and His disciples preparing for this final meal before Jesus's betrayal, crucifixion, and resurrection. While it can be easy to look at this story and feel sad that Jesus is going to be treated this way or even be angry at the people who ultimately betray and kill Him, these verses remind us that Jesus is ultimately the one in control! In the same way that Jesus knew where He would be able to find a place to eat His meal, Jesus knew everything that would ultimately come to Him.
Sometimes, when we go through hard things or we see others going through hard things, it can be easy to think that Jesus isn't really there or in control. But verses like these help us remember that even in the darkest days of history, Jesus has a plan and God is working!
THINK ABOUT IT:
1. Why is it so hard see Jesus working when things are hard? How can we remember God is in control?
2. Where have you seen God working behind the scenes in your life? How can you share that with others who need to hear it?
