Luke 21:32-38 — Watch Where You Lean!
READ THIS: Luke 21:32-38
32 “Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.34 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. 35 For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. 36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”
37 Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple, and each evening he went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives, 38 and all the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple.
WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?
One full generation will experience all of the signs that Jesus spoke about yesterday, from the crashing waves to the cosmic signs. However, as we each live our lives, we will experience different hard times and "signs," and we need to be careful. In those hard times, we can get trapped. We become anxious, and we turn to entertainment, drinking, or other things to cope. We need to watch ourselves and see what/who we lean on when we experience a hard time. If it's not Jesus, then we're missing the mark.
It's hard to stand confidently in front of someone you've ignored time after time and then proceed to ask to spend forever with Him. In contrast, when we stand in front of Jesus, we want to be able to say hi and hug Him like a friend we've been having phone calls with for years that we finally get to see in person.
The way we build up that kind of relationship is by leaning on Him in hard times. Ask anyone who has had a best friend for years. That bond is built through mutual support through hard times!
THINK ABOUT IT:
1. Who are you the tightest with? Who knows you? Why do you feel that way about that person? (If no one, reach out to Dan/Liz to talk more about that!)
2. How can you treat Jesus more like that person from number 1?
TRY THIS:
Reach out to your person from number 1 and let them know that you choose them for that question! It's important people know! Reinforce the bond!
