Luke 18:35-43 — Shout no matter what!

READ THIS: Luke 18:35-43

35 As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36 When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. 37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”

38 He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

39 Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

40 Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, 41 “What do you want me to do for you?”

“Lord, I want to see,” he replied.

42 Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” 43 Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

Can you even imagine? Imagine being a blind person sitting on the side of the road, not knowing what was happening except through sound alone. Then suddenly this massive shuffle of feet starts to approach, and you don't know why. But, when you ask who it is, you hear that it is Jesus. As you've been sitting on the side of the road, you've heard His name, and you've heard what He's done for other people. You believe He can do the same for you. So, you start shouting for Him because that's the only way you'd be able to get to Him...it's not like you could just get up and find Him.

Even in the midst of people trying to silence you, you continue to shout.

For me, I don't like the idea of people thinking I'm being disrespectful or too loud at the wrong times, so it would take a lot for me to keep shouting when people "rebuke" me. I don't like it when people don't approve of what I'm doing and then tell me so. But, this guy knew that all the disapproval in the world wasn't worth missing out on Jesus.

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. Do you think Jesus is worth the disapproval of others? Have you ever experienced that in your own life? When were you like the blind beggar?

2. Have you ever been like the other people in the crowd, telling someone else to quiet down about Jesus? Or at least feeling like they should? (I have...) Why? What were the circumstances? Do you think Jesus was also rebuking them, or do you think He was demanding that that person be brought to Him in some way?

TRY THIS:

Do something bold for Jesus today. It might not be shouting out that He's the Messiah in front of a crowd, but it could be something that's bold to you, no matter the approval of other people!!!
