Luke 17:1-3a — You trippin'?

READ THIS: Luke 17:1-3a

1 Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come. 2 It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. 3 So watch yourselves.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

In short, Jesus is saying that everyone messes up. But, even worse than messing up is causing OTHER people to mess up. We need to watch ourselves, not just so that we don't mess up, but so that we don't cause someone else to mess up. Jesus takes leadership very seriously, and He holds leaders to a higher standard. We need to watch ourselves and see where we are intentionally or unintentionally leading people the wrong way. How we act doesn't just affect us but everyone around us, especially those who look to us as leaders.

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. Where in your life are you a leader? Think about places both that you're required to be a leader and places that you just happen to be leading because people are looking at you and copying you. Are you leading people in the right way or the wrong way?

2. What causes you to stumble? Is there someone in your life that causes you to stumble/mess up?

TRY THIS:

Think of one person that you may have lead the wrong way. Talk to God about it, and also consider reaching out to that person and saying sorry.
