Luke 12:54-59 — Holy Weather Report

READ THIS: Luke 12:54-59

54 He said to the crowd: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘It’s going to rain,’ and it does. 55 And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It’s going to be hot,’ and it is. 56 Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time? 57 “Why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right? 58 As you are going with your adversary to the magistrate, try hard to be reconciled on the way, or your adversary may drag you off to the judge, and the judge turn you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison. 59 I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.”

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

Just a few days ago, we had some pretty bad rain down here in Houston... and you could tell it was coming the whole day... But how? All you had to do was look up! The sky was super dark, it started feeling colder and colder outside, and the wind began picking up. Jesus points this out in verses 54-55... we can tell how the weather is going to look by simply paying attention to what is happening around us. But why is Jesus saying all of this? In the same way that we can tell when the weather is going to change, we should be able to notice what Jesus is calling us to do and also be able to notice that the time for Jesus to come back is getting closer and closer!

So how should we be living if we know that Jesus is coming? We find that answer in verses 57-59... Jesus says that we should be seeking reconciliation (meaning that we do what we can to make our relationships right again) with those around us. Let this be a reminder to you that Jesus is coming back soon, and in the same way that He is always working to reconcile the relationship between us and God, we should be seeking to reconcile with those around us, no matter what!

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. Is there someone in your life you need to seek reconciliation with today?

2. Why is it so important to God that His people seek reconciliation with those around them?

TRY THIS:

You probably saw this coming... take some time to pray for the person you thought of (if you had one) for question number 1! If you feel nudged to, seek reconciliation with that person!

Comments

  1. I have sought reconciliation with a friend, but she chooses not to be reconciled. I have tried several times to no avail.
