Luke 11:29-32 — I saw the siiiign (and it opened up my eyes!)
READ THIS: Luke 11:29-32
29 As the crowds increased, Jesus said, “This is a wicked generation. It asks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah. 30 For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also will the Son of Man be to this generation. 31 The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with the people of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom; and now something greater than Solomon is here. 32 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and now something greater than Jonah is here.
WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?
Jonah: This is the same guy from the book of Jonah in the Old Testament, who was sent to talk to a city filled with sin, Ninevah. The sign of Jonah could be that Jonah was in a whale for three days then came to spread the Word of God, which foreshadows Jesus being in the tomb for three days and then the spreading of the Word of God.
Queen of the South: This is a queen of Sheba who is mentioned in the Old Testament in 1 Kings 10. She heard about how wise Solomon was, so she ventured out to go investigate into Solomon.
Now that you know the characters Jesus mentions a bit more, go back and reread the verses to see what more you can learn!
We don't want to look like the people in Jesus' generation who just heard a little bit about Jesus and then asked for different signs. We get the Bible, so we get to be like the Queen of the South and investigate what God has given us!!!
