Proverbs 22:24-25 — Wise Saying #3

READ THIS: Proverbs 22:24-25, Wise Saying #3

24 Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person, do not associate with one easily angered, 25 or you may learn their ways and get yourself ensnared.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

Who is the person in your life that can get you the angriest quickest? Come on... we all know at least one person who can! It probably didn't take you very long to think of that sibling, that friend, that parent, that coworker, or that teacher. Simply put, there are people in our lives who are expertly good at annoying us and leaving us angry, and most of them don't even realize they are doing it. The more important question is how do we respond to them?

It's very easy to look at this verse and be like "hmm, I definitely shouldn't be friends with Blah Blah, cuz they are always so easily angered." But let's take a second to look at ourselves! What kind of friend are we? If we are easily angered by others, it will trap us (that's what "ensnared" means at the end of the passage). We want to be people who show others who Jesus is always, and that includes when they annoy us or drive us crazy. So the next time that person comes by and makes you feel angry, take a minute (and take a breath), then speak in a way that will show them Jesus.

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. How easily do your friends influence your actions? More times than not, we look and act a lot like the closest people in our lives!

2. What is a helpful saying you can use to stop you from being easily angered?

TRY THIS:

The next time you feel yourself becoming angry, take at LEAST 3 seconds to breathe before you speak!
