Proverbs 7:1-5 — Fast and Furious
READ THIS: Proverbs 7:1-5
1 My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you. 2 Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye. 3 Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and to insight, “You are my relative.” 5 They will keep you from the adulterous woman, from the wayward woman with her seductive words.WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?
As Vin Diesel’s character from the Fast and Furious franchise, Dom Toretto, reminds us often… there’s nothing more important than “family.” While the movies are a bit ridiculous at points (or far more than that), the idea of family being something we hold close to us actually ties into what Solomon reminds his son here. Solomon writes that we should treat wisdom as if it were a family member, specifically a sister.
Siblings are supposed to protect and support their families, especially their fellow siblings. However, many of us can see siblings as our enemies at times because of the ways they drive us crazy. We should treat wisdom like the sibling we should be, keeping wisdom close to us and learning from it. So... will you treat wisdom like we can normally treat a sibling, or how we should treat it?
THINK ABOUT IT:
1. How do you normally treat your siblings? If you don't have one... how do your friends treat their siblings?
2. How can you keep God's wisdom close to you? What could that look like?
TRY THIS:
I was at my youngest sister’s house in Dallas today, getting to meet her first grandchild! It was such a blessing to meet her and I told my sister how excited I was for her! She has been such a blessing to me over the years and I tell her that all of the time!!!
