Proverbs 5:21-23 — Full View

READ THIS: Proverbs 5:21-23

21 For your ways are in full view of the Lord, and he examines all your paths. 22 The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them; the cords of their sins hold them fast. 23 For lack of discipline they will die, led astray by their own great folly.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

This section starts off with the word "for." The way that word is used is most similar to the word "because." Which means...the section of verses that happen right before this are needed to understand what Solomon is trying to say. Yesterday, we read about being satisfied with what God has already given us and not to turn away, especially in ways like adultery. We shouldn't turn away because (for) God is always right there with us.

A lot of the time when we sin, we think in our heads, "well, no one will know..." but that simply isn't true. God sees it. And, then, often, the second thing we think is, "well, it's not REALLY hurting anyone..." but the truth is that sin always hurts at least one person, because the person doing the sin is hurt by it. When we sin, we get caught up in it and it sticks onto us. But, we don't notice, so we keep doing it, until eventually we realize just how far we've gone and feel like we can't get out. (That feeling of not being able to get out is what being ensnared means!)

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. How does having discipline help stop us from getting ensnared in sin?

2. Everything you have done and thought is in FULL view of God. How does that make you feel? Is that comforting or scary to you?

TRY THIS:

Look out a window and try to take in the FULL view and think about what it would be like for you to watch your own life/heart in full view.
