Proverbs 4:23-27 — Spiritual Anatomy???
READ THIS: Proverbs 4:23-27
23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. 24 Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. 25 Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. 26 Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. 27 Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?
In this passage, Solomon writes about how wisdom can extend to our entire body! He lists out a bunch of different body parts (the heart, the lips/mouth, the eyes, the mind, and the feet) and explains how we can make a wise choice with each of them. What's even cooler here is that Jesus spoke about or demonstrated something with each of these parts of the body. Check it out!
- Heart: "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21)
- Mouth: All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. (Matthew 5:37)
- Eyes: “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. (Matthew 6:22)
- Mind: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." (Matthew 22:37)
- Feet: Jesus washed the feet of the disciples to demonstrate His love and humility toward them (John 13:1-5)
Both Solomon and Jesus emphasize that every part of our body should commit to pursuing what is wise, what is holy, and what God desires for us. But, as Proverbs 4:23 said today, our heart guides everything else!
THINK ABOUT IT:
1. Which of these parts of your body tend to be the hardest to align with Jesus?
2. Why is it important that your whole body is aligned with Jesus, rather than just a couple parts?
