Proverbs 4:18-22 — Blind walkin' here

READ THIS: Proverbs 4:18-22

18 The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. 19 But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble. 20 My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. 21 Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; 22 for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

Have you ever tried to make it across a room when it's completely dark? And then you trip over something and you're like, "oh my gosh was that my shoe? My clothes from yesterday? What was that?"

That's what it's like when we aren't walking with God. We can walk confidently for a few steps, but then we start to stumble, and we don't even understand what's wrong. We walk through the day, we lie to some people, we steal something, and we act like it's okay, but then we look around us and feel isolated and lonely. We can't figure out why. That's what happens when we don't walk with God. Without Him, we have a hard time, and we can't understand what we are doing wrong.

BUT when we do walk with God, we have a good understanding of what's wrong. For the earlier example, when we flip on the lights we know for sure that we tripped over our old baby blanket, so we know to move that. Jesus is like our own light, lighting up the things that can make us stumble. When we walk in that light, we get to live a completely better life. Part of being able to do that is listening to the words of the Bible and living them out!

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. How are you feeling right now? Do you feel like you are living in the light or do you feel like there are some things that are making you feel all tripped up?

2. If you feel off or tripped up, how can you go about bringing that to the light? What can you do to light it up?

TRY THIS:

I challenge you at some point today to blindfold yourself/close your eyes and make it from a corner of your room all the way to the fridge in your kitchen. Think about how much easier it is when you can actually see, haha.
