Proverbs 3:31-35 — No Praise Needed

READ THIS: Proverbs 3:31-35

31 Do not envy the violent or choose any of their ways. 32 For the Lord detests the perverse but takes the upright into his confidence. 33 The Lord’s curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous. 34 He mocks proud mockers but shows favor to the humble and oppressed. 35 The wise inherit honor, but fools get only shame.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

Have you ever been jealous of a friend because their parents let them do something your parents would never let you do? Well, God is our parent. He wants us to avoid worldly actions and decisions so, He gives us wisdom. Just like our parents, God is doing what is best for us. However, we can't listen to His wisdom just to get praise for doing a good job. Instead, we should listen to understand how Jesus would handle the situation.

In many of the stories you read about Jesus, there tends to be one common factor, He is humble! When Jesus was healing those around Him or making miracles happen, He didn't go off and yell, "AYO, I JUST HEALED THIS GUY! LOVE ME AND MY AWESOMENESS!" While we do love Him and His awesomeness, we love Jesus because He is humble. Jesus keeps what He has done for you between you and Him. When we hear wisdom from God, we should strive to be more like Jesus and remain humble when we take action. Listen with intentionality, not to gain praise from other people. The only opinion that matters is God's opinion!

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. When you help your family with chores, do you do it to be intentional or for the praise?

2. What is something you could be more intentional with?

TRY THIS:

Glorifying God requires intentionality! So, you guessed it, your challenge this week is to be intentional! Whether you are talking with God, hanging with a friend, or helping a family member with a task, don't do it to hear good things back! Let's do it to do it! GO BE INTENTIONAL!

Comments

  1. I am going to be intentional to pray for a friend whose family is in an upheaval. Pray that God’s will for them would be very clear and that they would feel His love in the midst of their sorrow.
