Proverbs 3:19-26 — The Safety Dance

READ THIS: Proverbs 3:19-26

19 By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place; 20 by his knowledge the watery depths were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew. 21 My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; 22 they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. 23 Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. 24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. 25 Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, 26 for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

When we think about God's wisdom, it usually involves some sense of knowing the difference between right and wrong and being morally strong. While this is true, it is easy to overlook God's wisdom in His creation. Only God could create something as majestic as the mountains or something so intricate as a chameleon. We can't imagine all the things He has created yet He shares some of His wisdom with those who seek Him.

For this reason, Solomon writes that we should never let God's wisdom slip out of our reach. There are simply too many benefits that come from having the gift of God's wisdom. If we trust in God and seek His wisdom, then we will be safe and without fear. Part of God's gift of wisdom He bestows on us is knowing He will always be there for us. He will catch us if we fall and keep evil away from us. We have nothing to fear when we trust in the Lord and receive His wisdom.

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. How have you seen God's wisdom within His creation?

2. Why can it sometimes be difficult to turn to God for His wisdom?

TRY THIS:

Take time out of your day to go on a walk. When on said walk, praise God for His creation and ask Him for wisdom. Hopefully you will have some peace in knowing He will keep you safe and remove any fear or harm in your life.
