Proverbs 3:13-18 — My Precious
READ THIS: Proverbs 3:13-18
13 Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, 14 for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. 15 She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. 16 Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. 17 Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. 18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed.WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?
Once again, we see wisdom described as a woman (remember way back in chapter 1?). Here, we see wisdom portrayed specifically as a woman that people should be seeking after. Solomon describes wisdom as beneficial to whoever has her in many ways. Whoever has wisdom gains things more valuable than gold, silver, or rubies! Remember, Solomon was a king who had more wealth than anyone ever before him. Solomon understood exactly how valuable worldly wealth was, yet he still saw wisdom as even more valuable... but why?
Worldly wealth sure can be nice, but it ultimately fades away (we will hear a lot more about that from Solomon later). Wisdom is something that can last a lot longer. When we choose to live our lives wisely, searching after God's ways rather than our own, we gain something much more valuable: life with Jesus forever in heaven! But wisdom only comes to us when we ask God for it, just as Solomon did (check out the "try this" section for what that looks like!).
THINK ABOUT IT:
1. What is something you consider to be precious or valuable to you? Do you see wisdom as even more valuable than that?
2. Have you ever asked God for wisdom? If not, take some time to do that now!
