Proverbs 2:6-11 — Sapientia et Virtus
READ THIS: Proverbs 2:6-11
6 For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. 7 He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, 8 for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. 9 Then you will understand what is right and just and fair—every good path. 10 For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. 11 Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.
WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?
What it does mean is that God will help us in our decision making if we seek after Him. This gift of wisdom not only benefits us in growing in our relationship with God, but it can also help us become better leaders within our communities. Verse 11 is one of my favorites for this very reason. The best leaders are the ones who do not let their emotions get the better of them. Being discrete will allow you to make decisions based off reason. Understanding allows you to assess a decision and know which one is the right one to pick. Both of these are part of the wisdom package God gives us. If you would like to learn more about this, I recommend reading James 1:19. All this is to reassure us that if we live a virtuous life for God, then He will be by our side through all our challenges we may face.
Find someone who you believe to be a virtuous Christian. Ask them their process when making difficult decisions. Finally, ask how they have seen God working in their lives through those decisions. Let us know how it goes!
THINK ABOUT IT:
1. Why is wisdom so important when making difficult decisions?
2. How have you witnessed God's wisdom through your actions?
