Proverbs 2:1-5 — X marks the spot

READ THIS: Proverbs 2:1-5

1 My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, 2 turning your ear to wisdom   and applying your heart to understanding— 3 indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, 4 and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, 5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

In order to live out the plan God has for us, we have to do more than passively listen to wisdom! Truly listening to wisdom requires action, otherwise that wisdom will never have an impact… but how can we apply wisdom if we don't understand it first? Verse 4 hints that understanding wisdom is like searching for hidden treasure! Finding hidden treasure would be hard without clues from the person who hid the treasure! However, we can use prayer and the good ole Bible as our own clues to understand what God is telling us.

If you don't understand what God is asking you to do, it is okay to ask for help from Him again! There have been many times when I have asked God for help praying over someone. While He did give me an answer, I still didn't fully understand what He meant. Instead of asking Him how the second time, I had to ask Him to help me understand what He wanted! God wants us to listen, search, and hold on to the treasure He is providing! The treasure we are looking for is His wisdom! Wisdom holds a lot of value, so it is important to try and remember what He tells you in case you have a similar situation later!

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. What is something you value? How can you value God's wisdom in the same way?

2. Have you ever been confused by what God was telling you? How did you handle it?

TRY THIS:

I want you to think about something you could use God's help with. Spend some time with God talking about it and ask for help understanding. When He gives some wisdom on the matter, write it down! Put this note of wisdom somewhere you will see it constantly to help you remember His wise words for another time!
