Proverbs 1:24-27 — Listening Ears ON!!!!
READ THIS: Proverbs 1:24-27
24 But since you refuse to listen when I call and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand, 25 since you disregard all my advice and do not accept my rebuke, 26 I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you; I will mock when calamity overtakes you— 27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you.
WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?
When we receive wisdom we have two options: listening to it or ignoring it. Verse 24 sets the stage for the consequences coming to those tempted by sin and who do not listen to wisdom. One word used was calamity! Calamity is an event that causes great and sudden damage! In this case, not listening to wisdom creates a little roadblock in your path following God. Personally, I have ignored wisdom because I felt like I was not ready for it or thought I could handle the problem on my own. Ignoring the wisdom given to me in the past ended up making me feel further from God. We are given wisdom to listen to, NOT to ignore. The more we don't listen, and the more we don't put God's wisdom first, the more overwhelming life can seem. Wisdom is something that can help us all if we listen, but if we keep running away from it, we are only hurting ourselves!
God is trying to keep a hold of us with wisdom, but we keep letting go of His hand when we ignore the wisdom He is providing. Wisdom is what keeps us on the path of glorifying God!! Next time you hear wisdom, LISTEN!
THINK ABOUT IT:
1. Have you ever heard wisdom from God and ignored it? Why?
2. Can you think of a time when you listened to what God had to say? How did it make you feel?
