Proverbs 1:20-21 — We're gonna SHOUT SHOUT SHOUT!
READ THIS: Proverbs 1:20-21
20 Out in the open wisdom calls aloud, she raises her voice in the public square; 21 on top of the wall she cries out, at the city gate she makes her speech:
WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?
Prepare yourself (especially if you are up early reading this), because English class is starting early! In this passage, we start to see something that happens very often in Proverbs: personification! Personification is a fancy word that basically means someone is giving human characteristics to something that isn't human. In this case, Solomon describes wisdom as a woman.
But wisdom isn't just some lady hanging around doing nothing... she wants to be HEARD. It says here that she is standing "out in the open" where everyone can see her. Then we see her shouting loudly for all to hear in the public square, and finally we see her at the top of the walls of this city. God's wisdom is the exact same way: it is out in the open for us to hear and learn from, and God is constantly trying His best to get our attention and hear what He has to say! We can receive that wisdom daily the moment we open up His Word, talk to Him in prayer, or spend time talking about Him with other believers.
If wisdom is trying to get our attention and give us a speech, should we be listening?! I think so... so over the next few days, you are going to get to hear wisdom's speech, so be sure to be listening!!!
THINK ABOUT IT:
1. Where do you struggle to listen well to others? Can you think of a situation where listening better could have resulted in a better outcome?
2.
How do you listen best to God? Through His Word, prayer, others, or something else?
TRY THIS:
Take some time, right now, to just listen. Listen to the traffic if you're reading in the car. Listen to whatever may be going on in your room or outside or wherever you are. Then take a couple moments to listen carefully to what God may be saying to you!
