Ephesians 6:17a — Fun fact: you are saved!!!!

READ THIS: Ephesians 6:17a

13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

*REMINDER* We are going to be going over the armor of God for the next few days... piece by piece! We will be showing all the verses for the section each day, but we really want you to focus on the part in bold each day!

So, yesterday, we picked up the shield of faith, having confidence that God is who He says He is and that He'll follow through. Today, we're strapping on the helmet of salvation. We can believe who God is and sometimes forget how that affects us and who we are. A helmet covers our head, and our head is where our brain is, where all of our thoughts are. When we think about ourselves, do we think of ourselves as saved?

Sometimes we mess up. We are mean, we shout, we think horrible things, and we do horrible things. When that happens, we can forget that we are saved. That God will always forgive us and welcome us back when we say sorry. When we strap on the helmet of salvation, we are protecting ourselves from thoughts like, "I'm too far gone," or "God loves everyone else, but He can't love me." That's malarkey. When we have on the helmet of salvation, we know that God has WAY more good to give us than we have bad to do. When we have on the helmet of salvation, we protect our thoughts from forgetting that because God is who He says He is (a forgiver, a protector, our Father), that means we will always be who He says we are (forgiven, protects, His children).

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. Do you think you're "too far gone" from God? Why?

2. Do you think you do a good job or a rough job of strapping on the helmet of salvation? Do you think you understand what it means that you are saved?

Try to remember what each piece of armor means (there's one more left tomorrow):
-Belt
-Breastplate
-Shoes
-Shield
-Helmet
