Ephesians 6:13-14a — Tighten that belt
READ THIS: Ephesians 6:13-14a
13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
*DISCLAIMER* We are going to be going over the armor of God for the next few days... piece by piece! We will be showing all the verses for the section each day, but we really want you to focus on the part in bold each day!
Verse 13 does a good recap of what we talked about yesterday, while verse 14 gets into the armor of God. Each piece reminds us of how to fight off the enemy in different ways. One of Satan's favorite ways to attack us is through lies. How do we fight lies? With truth! That's why we need to put on the belt of truth...it is what holds together all of the rest of our armor. If we don't know the truth of who Jesus is and who we are, then we're not going to be able to be righteous or ready to share the gospel or any of the other parts of the armor we're going to get to.
We can put on the belt of truth by naming a lie we are hearing and writing a Biblical truth in response. For example, if a lie that you hear is that you are alone, a really good Biblical truth is Matthew 28:20, "surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age," which is something Jesus says to His followers!
