Ephesians 4:1-3 — Called to Love

READ THIS: Ephesians 4:1-3

As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

Paul reminds the Ephesians during his time in prison to "live a life worthy of the calling" they were given by Jesus... but what is that calling? Jesus called his followers to do a lot of things, but the one that popped into my head today was this one:

John 13:35 - "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Jesus called us to love one another, and Paul reminds the Ephesians how to love one another. He says love is rooted in humility, gentleness, patience, and peace through unity. If we want to live a life worthy of being a disciple, we can do it through the way we love one another.

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. Who is someone in your life who is easy to love? How can you love the people in your life who are hard to love that way?

2. Which of these do you think you need to grow in the most: humility, gentleness, patience, or peace?

Memorize John 13:35!! You can do it!
