Ephesians 2:8-10 — Sheep Dogs!

READ THIS: Ephesians 2:8-10

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

We did nothing to receive forgiveness for our sins and an invite into relationship with God for forever. There is nothing that we can brag about. No matter what, we are God's special creation designed to do good things. God has had a plan for each of us, since day 1.

People get confused about why we still do good things as Christians if doing those good things doesn't really earn us anything. It makes me think of a sheep dog. You know those dogs that just love running around and herding sheep? The dogs don't get anything out of it...but there is something so right about herding sheep to them, and that's because those dogs were legit created to herd sheep (that was the work that breeders prepared in advance for those dogs to do). We are the same way! God made us intentionally, and there is a certain joy/rightness when we live into God's design for us!!!

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. When was a time that you just did something good for someone because it seemed right?

2. Why is it important to know that we don't really have a right to boast/brag about the things we do?

TRY THIS:

I kind of went into a dark hole of sheep herding videos on this one....but any way, check out this video! Think about ways we might be kind of like sheep dogs...also think about ways we really aren't and how the analogy breaks down, too!

Comments

  1. We don’t have a right to brag because God does His work through us—it is not us, but Him!

  2. What a great dog… I bet someone would say he’s the best dog. Ever.
