Ephesians 2:4-7 — No Comparison
READ THIS: Ephesians 2:4-7
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
There are a lot of awesome parts to talk about here, and it makes sense considering Jesus is… ya know… awesome. We could talk about God’s incredible love for us, our own sinful selves, or His mercy despite our brokenness. Instead, let’s talk about a very important word used here and used often (especially at our church): grace!
Paul says that grace, not our own ability, is the reason we have been saved from sin. Paul says that we were saved so that we could experience and be shown the incomparable riches of His grace. Incomparable is a fancier way of saying that nothing comes close to the level of whatever is being mentioned. There is nothing that can or ever will compare to God’s grace for us!
Loving, gracious, and merciful are great words to describe God. NOT counting those three, write down 5 words you would use to describe God!
Funny, smart, interesting, powerful, forgiving
