Ephesians 1:3-6 — Reasons For Praise

READ THIS: Ephesians 1:3-6

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

This passage talks a lot about the things God has done for us and how we should respond to them. Paul says our job as believers in Jesus is to give God all of our praise! But why?

Paul lists several reasons, starting with the fact that every blessing we have in this world was given to us by God (James 1:17 says that every good gift comes from God). Paul then says that God chose us and loved us before the earth was even created, despite how broken and imperfect we are. That love is shown best by God's offer to all of His people to be adopted into His family. Paul says that God offering us this opportunity isn't difficult for Him, but instead it gives Him pleasure! Because of all of this (and SO much more), our response to Jesus in good times and bad times should only be praise!

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. What do you think a "spiritual blessing" even is (check out verse 3)? What does it look like?

2. What are different ways you can give God praise today?

TRY THIS:

Write or type down 3 blessings that God has given you, then thank God for each of those gifts!

Comments

  1. I think a spiritual gift looks like a talent for something that praises God
