Ephesians 1:15-18 — 1/2 A Prayer

READ THIS: Ephesians 1:15-18

15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

First off, yup that comma after "holy people" is supposed to be there. Verse 19 starts after the comma, which we'll see tomorrow! This whole section is the first half of a prayer, and this half is all about the Ephesian people.

Yesterday, Paul's words were about how we've been chosen by Jesus to be His people! So, Paul responds to Jesus' choice in praise. When people give their lives to Jesus, we get excited because that means they have responded to Jesus' choice and we get to celebrate with them now and for eternity, all because Jesus died and lives for us. Here, Paul prays that the Ephesian people might know Jesus more and more through the Holy Spirit. Part of knowing Jesus more is also knowing that we are invited into God's family, so we have the same inheritance as Jesus....eternal life with God!

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. How does our inheritance in Jesus give us hope? (see v18 for these two questions!)

2. What does "eyes of your heart" mean?

TRY THIS:

Pray the prayer found in 17-18 over someone you know right now!
