2 Timothy 4:1-2 — Preach it! Go off!

READ THIS: 2 Timothy 4:1-2

1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

Paul makes sure we know that these good works that we're prepared/equipped to do (<--read about yesterday) are works that we're called to do by God, not by anyone else. God is the one who will judge the things we do...not Paul, not Liz, not Daniel, not your mom, not your dad, not the most popular boy at school, etc. Just God. So, knowing that, we are called to:

    1. Preach about the Bible! We need to be ready to talk about Jesus/the Bible whether we are currently             being paid to talk about Jesus or whether we are walking down the school hallway between lunch             period and math class.

    2. Correct, rebuke, and encourage! We are supposed to help guide someone into doing something better,         to call out someone when they are doing something messed up, and to tell people when they are doing a         great job and tell them things that will give them courage to keep going! All of these things must                be done super patiently and with attention to what lessons we are teaching by our words and                        actions.

When we do all of these things knowing God is the judge, we can do it for Him and not get too worried about what someone else might say when we try to talk about the Bible, hold someone to a standard, or be incredibly nice for "no reason."

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. What do you do better, number one or number two? Why do you think so?

2. What was a time someone corrected/rebuked you in a way that was helpful and godly?

TRY THIS:

Try to explain out loud these two Bible verses (2 Timothy 4:1-2), as if someone asked you, "hey, what are you reading?" Bonus points if you make someone else listen to you, lol.
