2 Timothy 2:10-13 — Singing with the OLD Christians

READ THIS: 2 Timothy 2:10-13

10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. 11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; 13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

Verses 11-13 might be some weird saying Paul just made up OR it is a quote from an early church song! ***Extra points to anyone who creates a song and dance to those verses***

Paul's whole point here is that all the suffering he's had to go through is worth it because he gets to show people Jesus. No matter how we act, Jesus loves us and went through the hardest things for us. So, we should publicly own Jesus--claim Him as our own--even when it's hard. If we don't do that, then Jesus can't publicly claim us as His own. But, say, one day, we turn around and say that we do love Jesus and do claim Him, then He will take us back, because He is always faithful even when we aren't!

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. What does it mean to be faithful? Specifically what does it mean in verse 13?

2. How can we live with Jesus if Jesus died...? How's that make sense? (think about what it might mean to "reign with Him" in verse 12)

TRY THIS:

Think of someone who hasn't been faithful (who hasn't stuck by you) and pray for them! If you feel like you're supposed to, reach out to that person/people and be kind to them in some way!
