2 Timothy 1:13-14 — Flashback!

READ THIS: 2 Timothy 1:13-14

13 What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus. 14 Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.  
 
WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

Oooooh, flashback time!!!! Remember the first book we read, James? Let's check out the reminder he gives us in James 1:22-24...

22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 

To me, this is Paul reminding Timothy of the same lesson we read about in James! But this time, Paul also shows Timothy how we can remember what God's Word says: we can ask the Holy Spirit to help! Part of the job of the Holy Spirit is to guard and protect the Word in our hearts and minds so we can remember it. Trust me, if you read the Word and ask the Spirit to help, God will come through, like He always does, whenever you need it!

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. What is your favorite passage or verse in the Bible that you can remember right now?

2. Have you ever asked God to help you remember what He says in the Bible? Does it ever help?

Pick one verse, either from the 2 Timothy verses today or the James verses, and memorize it!

Luke 8:19-21 — Jesus's Fam!

R EAD THIS:  Luke 8:19-21 19 Now Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd. 20 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.” 21 He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.” WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY? Ummmm, hold up, is Jesus dissing on His family here? I mean, I know He is God's Son and all, but at first glance, this passage makes it seem like He is kind of hating on His family!
