Galatians 5:1-6 — Our Choice=Law or Love

READ THIS: Galatians 5:1-6

1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.  2 Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. 3 Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. 4 You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. 5 For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

This whole section I think we've got down, now. In short, we can choose to try to earn our way into right relationship with God through following the law, or we can accept that there's nothing we can do to earn life with God forever. We simply need to believe that Jesus lived the perfect life for us and then died to pay for the imperfect lives we actually live!

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. Verse five says "through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope." In other words, the Holy Spirit helps us be excited that one day we will be fully right with God, which we trust in through faith. Why do you think we wait in the Spirit? Why aren't we just waiting by ourselves?

2. How can faith express itself through love, like it says in v6? In other words, how can our faith be seen by love?

TRY THIS:

Try out expressing your faith through love today or tomorrow!!!
