Galatians 3:23-25 — Heavenly Parenting

READ THIS: Galatians 3:23-25

23 Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. 24 So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. 25 Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

This passage talks about a lot of what we've been covering already this week, so let's use an analogy to make this more fun!

Think of the last time you had a babysitter. Babysitters have to follow certain rules given to them by the parents, but they also may come with their own rules (things like no watching TV past a certain time or no running around outside near a busy street). But when the night is done or the next day comes, the babysitter leaves and the parents are back in charge, and their rules take over the ones the babysitter made.

Jesus, since He is God, is our Father. The law was our guardian (like a good babysitter, setting helpful rules that kept us safe), but Jesus came in and brought a new law for us to follow. This law is based on loving Him and one another, and it is about having faith in Him above everything else. The law was (and is) helpful, but our heavenly Parent, Jesus, is in charge now and forever!

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. What were some of the most annoying rules you've had to follow from a parent or a babysitter that were ultimately good rules to follow later on in life?

2. Do you ever think about God like He is your heavenly Parent? What does that mean to you?

TRY THIS:

Being a parent is HARD... so take some time today to thank your parent(s) for what they do! Write them a note, send them a thoughtful text, or (even better) tell them in person how much they mean to you!

Comments

  1. Being a parent is hard-especially with your firstborn—NO EXPERIENCE! But by God’s Grace you move on and learn from trial and error and from your child. No two children are exactly alike. I don’t know anyone who intends to be a bad parent, but we all can make mistakes, BUT GOD! He can unravel a lot of messes, forgives us and lets us learn from Him. THANK YOU, LORD!!!
