2 Timothy 1:9-10 — Nothing WE have done!

READ THIS: 2 Timothy 1:9-10

9 He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, 10 but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

MAN! What a great picture of the Gospel! We have been saved and given a chance to have a holy life... a life set apart from the rest of the world, a life with Jesus, and a life that never ends. But the key words here are found at the end of verse 9. We have been saved and given this life through one way: Jesus! If heaven came down to what we were able to do on our own, then none of us would make it! Thank the Lord that He loved us enough to give us more than we could ever deserve through the gift of His Son, the One who conquered death and brought us life forever.

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. Do you ever feel like you have to earn heaven? If so, do you think you could make it on your own?

2. What does it mean to you that Jesus "destroyed death?" People still die, right? So what does that mean?

TRY THIS:

One of the best parts about Jesus's grace is that He teaches us how to share that grace with others through the Spirit. Try your best to show someone even a piece of the same grace you have been given today!

Comments

  1. Ok so I do think you have to earn your way into heaven. Like we talked about in confirmation the other week, the unrepentant sinners aren’t going up exactly… regardless you do have to earn it, you’ve gotta repent for your sins, know what you’ve done is wrong, and believe in Jesus with your whole heart

I think that “Jesus destroyed death “ means that he defeated sin, the wages of sin is death, but he took all of our sins and died for them, he also defeated literal death, idk if y'all have heard about this thing called Easter, it explains that whole thing.
