READ THIS: 2 Timothy 1:3-5
3 I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4 Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.
WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?
Family can have a huge impact on someone's faith journey, and Timothy is a perfect example of it. Timothy was likely a 2nd generation Christian, meaning he was likely not even alive during the time of Jesus, or if anything, he was just a kid. He didn't see the life of Jesus with his own eyes, so how did he come to know Christ? Through his mom and his grandmother!
Timothy grew up around people who raised him to know Jesus as his Savior, and it left an amazing impact on his life. He grew to be the kind of leader that Paul thanked God for daily and nightly, and that would not have been possible without the way God moved through Timothy's family.
THINK ABOUT IT:
1. As you have grown up, what kind of impact has family had on your faith? If your family hasn't impacted it much, who has?
2. What are ways that you can share your belief in Jesus to the next generation of believers?
TRY THIS:
Take some time to pray and thank God for the people who have brought you up in your belief in Jesus, and if you are really feeling it, write them a note or send them a text telling them thanks!
My family has had an enormous impact on my faith, they, like Daniels parents to an extent gave me a choice about faith, sometime but not often they would let us stay home if we asked nice enough. But now I always want to go no matter what.
ReplyDeleteI think one big way to show the next generation Jesus is through our actions and words, these kinds of things are important to introduce early, because kids will have that for as long as possible.
When talking to our now 49 year old son he was telling me he still has ‘Salty’s songs’ going through his brain. Christian music and songs are wonderful ways for children and adults to learn scripture!!! Songs seem to stay in your head longer than just reading scripture!!!
