2 Timothy 1:11-12 — NO cause for shame!
READ THIS: 2 Timothy 1:11-12
11 And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher. 12 That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet this is no cause for shame, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.Have you ever been in trouble and you felt embarrassed about it? Like that time you hit a kid with a stick a few times (gently) and then that kid broke out in hives and tattled on you, and you had to talk to a bunch of teachers about it and get removed from class? No? Just me? Well, anyway, we all do things that we are ashamed of, and sometimes it can be intensified when we get in trouble for it. Like, it was already bad enough you hit the kid, but now you have to be publicly reprimanded.
Paul was thrown in jail because he would not stop talking about Jesus. The good news that there's nothing we can do to earn Heaven because Jesus earned it for us was too good to be quiet about. But, usually, when you or your family member is thrown in jail there is shame connected to that. Paul is saying, even though he is being publicly reprimanded, that is NO reason for shame. If any of us gets in trouble because we are talking about Jesus in the way He calls us to, then we should NEVER feel bad about it. Sometimes, it might mean getting in trouble and not being able to do what we want. Paul couldn't go and be with Timothy like he wanted to, but he trusted that God would guard and protect him. When we give up things and people for the good news, we also need to trust that God will guard those things and people we had to give up!
Say into a mirror, "I have nothing to be ashamed of. Jesus lived and died for me, so I have nothing to be ashamed of."
