James 5:13-16 — To be honest...~in prayer~

 READ THIS: James 5:13-16

13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

We just spoke about how we shouldn't have to say "No, but I swear it's true!" because whenever we speak, we should speak the truth. A great way to start being honest is by being honest when we're talking to God! Are you having a hard time? You can tell God! Are you having the best day ever? You can tell God! Then, from there, we can also be honest with people around us! Are we feeling horrible? Tell other believers so they can pray for you! Prayer is powerful. God loves to hear from us, and there is something that changes inside of us when we talk to Him. The more we speak with Him, the more we rely on Him to work in powerful ways. Even when we sin, and we feel like we can't tell anyone, especially God, that is when it is the most important to tell them! Through being honest about our sins to God and believers, we can find healing, or peace, beyond what we could ever imagine!

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. Who are you the least likely to be honest with when you are feeling something: Yourself? Others? God?

2. Have you ever confessed (or told about in full honestly) a sin before, to God or others?

TRY THIS:

Whoever the answer was to question number 1, try today or tomorrow to be super honest with that person (whether it's yourself, at least one other person, or to God).
