Galatians 2:6-8 — My fancy famous gospel
READ THIS: Galatians 2:6-8
6 As for those who were held in high esteem—whatever they were makes no difference to me; God does not show favoritism—they added nothing to my message. 7 On the contrary, they recognized that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been to the circumcised. 8 For God, who was at work in Peter as an apostle to the circumcised, was also at work in me as an apostle to the Gentiles.Imagine you wake up today, and bam, you are friends with famous Christians, like Chris Renzema, Phil Wickham, nobigdyl., Shane & Shane, Louie Giglio, Timothy Keller, all the people. Would your understanding of the gospel change just because you went from hanging out with nonfamous people to hanging out with super famous Christian people? It shouldn't...the gospel is the same whether we are professional singers, paid pastors, homeless artists, atheists, schoolteachers, or Muslims. The gospel story doesn't change depending on who we know or who we are, although we might come to understand it differently over time!
Paul in this passage got to hang out with some famous Christians, as we'll learn more about tomorrow, but that didn't change anything about who Jesus was. In fact, the famous Christians told him he was doing a good job and to keep up his work for the Gentiles (the nonJewish people), while they kept preaching to the Jews. It's kind of like if Ben Stuart, a D.C. pastor, came up to Pastor Julia and was like "hey, that's cool you're preaching to Grace Pres! You keep doing that; I'll keep preaching up here!" They may be talking to different groups of people, and they might be different levels of famous, but the gospel they're preaching is still the same.
I think that Paul taught to the uncircumcised because he knows that the gospel is not biased, it isn’t something you have to earn.
ReplyDeleteI know this is going to sound cheesy , buuut… I hold Dan and Liz in a high esteem because no matter what is happening they always find a way to connect it to Jesus and turn it into a teaching moment.
I think paul taught to the gentiles because he knows what it’s like because he didn’t always believe in god if my memory is correct
ReplyDeleteand i would say baniel daudin but i say that a lot and the more i think about it probably my second period teacher last year cause because i could always talk to her about the dumbest and most serious things

Okayokay hear me out—ye Paul did not always believe in JESUS but he did always believe in God. He was a Pharisee so he was BIG into God, but yeah just like the Gentiles and some of the Jews he could relate to now believing in Jesus
