James 1:9-11— Get Stoked About Humiliation
READ THIS: James 1:9-11
9 Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. 10 But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower. 11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.
WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?
We can find ourselves in a lot of different circumstances, but whatever situation we're in, it isn't going to last for long. We might be poor our whole lives or we might be rich or we might be popular or we might be geeky or whatever, but all of that is worldly things. Sure, it's okay to be excited when something awesome happens, like if we find twenty bucks or if we're voted onto the homecoming court, but we should also be excited for the times when we talk to the uncool kid or get our hands filthy on a mission trip. Our situations don't last for a long time, but we often take so much pride in the things of this world, like money, that we don't celebrate the things that make us more like Jesus...the guy who washed people's feet.
THINK ABOUT IT:
1. What's something weird/uncomfy/gross you've done that really helped someone?
2. What's something weird/uncomfy/gross someone else has done for you?
TRY THIS:
Think about someone you low-key think is gross/uncool and do something kind for that person, whether it's a (true) compliment or a card or just not talking bad about that person!
I have a friend in a wheelchair who lives alone with her little dog. She’s unable to clean her apartment, or to go anyplace, so I pick her up and take her and her little dog out to lunch, then for a drive around some part of Houston for a couple of hours. We have fun and it blesses both of us!!!
