READ THIS: Luke 19:11-27
28 After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29 As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 30 “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’”
32 Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 They replied, “The Lord needs it.”
35 They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it.
WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?
Imagine this: You walk into an H-E-B. You snag a massive bag of Doritos. You walk out the door without paying.
When the cops pick you up, how do you think it'll go when you say, "The Lord needs it."
The disciples didn't just take some chips; they took someone's whole donkey. (A colt is like our word for child for both donkeys and horses). It would take a LOT of faith to go up to some stranger and say directly into his/her face that you were going to take their donkey, with only four words as explanation.
It would also take a lot of faith to let someone take something that belongs to you just because "the Lord needs it." The colt's owners let the disciples do it, taking it in full faith that the Lord did in fact need their donkey, accepting the risk that they might be getting ripped off.
THINK ABOUT IT:
1. Are you willing to do the sketchier things that Jesus might ask you to do? (Sketchy to you could mean giving money to the church, being nice to the weird kids, etc. Define what sketchy means to you for this question and then be honest about if you actually are willing to do those "sketchier" things).
2. Are you willing to give up something of yours at a moment's notice if Jesus needs it? Try and think of a circumstance that could actually happen today where you would have to give up your belongings in the name of Jesus!
TRY THIS:
Give something away today and say "in the name of Jesus." I dare you!
