Proverbs 6:12-15 — Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

READ THIS: Proverbs 6:12-15

12 A troublemaker and a villain, who goes about with a corrupt mouth, 13 who winks maliciously with his eye, signals with his feet and motions with his fingers, 14 who plots evil with deceit in his heart— he always stirs up conflict. 15 Therefore disaster will overtake him in an instant; he will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

Have you ever wondered what the scoundrel part of the movie "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" meant? Well, Solomon breaks it down for you! People who do not speak good things fit in this description. Those who create chaos are not for God. We need to be watchful for these people, but we also need to make sure we are not speaking corrupt things either. Solomon continues on by stating how these scoundrels send signals to each other (such as winking). This shows that the scoundrel has intentions to do evil and that they don't have good intentions. As Alfred from "The Dark Night" says, "some men just want to watch the world burn." This quote rings true with the description Solomon has for the scoundrels.

The good news is that God sees through the deception and lies these scoundrels use as weapons against us. We can take heart in knowing God will protect us and destroy anything that goes against Him. His love overpowers any kind of harm that may be dealt to us. We just need to make sure we do not become the scoundrel ourselves. We must turn to God always, because He will protect us.

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. Have you ever witnessed someone who has evil intentions? What qualities did this person have that led you to believe this?

2. How does God's love for us protect us from those who wish to do us harm?

TRY THIS:

Your challenge today is to help call out people with bad intentions in a loving way! When you see someone plotting something evil, pull them aside and talk to them 1-on-1!
