Galatians 6:1-2 — Sins and Burdens

READ THIS: Galatians 6:1-2

1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

WHAT’S THIS MEAN, ANYWAY?

Paul gives two clear instructions in these verses, so let's break each one down!

The first thing Paul talks about is restoring others when they are caught in sin. When people around us are doing the wrong thing, sometimes it is easier and more comfortable to just let it slide because we don't want them to be mad at us, but the Bible says it is our job to call other people out when they mess up. However, the Bible makes it very clear that how we call someone out is just as important as calling them out at all. When we call each other out for sin, we need to do it in a way that builds others up!

But Paul also talks about one other thing here: carrying each other's burdens. We all go through hard things, and sometimes it feels easier to go through them alone, but the Bible calls us to be there for one another. Maybe that means the next time something hard is going on at school or work, you tell your small group about it, or maybe it means that instead of taking time after your homework is done to play video games, you ask your parents, your sibling, or your friend how they are really doing so you can support them! Whether it's our burdens or someone else's, God created us to go through hard things together and with Him!

THINK ABOUT IT:

1. When people around you slip up, do you lift them back up gently? Who is someone you can speak to in a gentle way today?

2. Do you have a burden you need someone to carry with you? Shoot that friend a text, or if you are feeling it, leave a comment!

TRY THIS:

Check out Ephesians 4:29 (see below), and pray for God to give you chances to build others up today!

"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." Ephesians 4:29

Comments

  1. When people around me slip up in more that like, dropping a ball during a game or something like that, I tend to be more encouraging towards that person, but when it’s something small such as making a bad throw in kickball or something like that, that’s when I tend to get on someone (I know) about failing.

I would say there isn’t really a big thing or problem for me right now, just a bit more stressed with school back in and yeah. See y’all tomorrow for the vbs thingamabober and also my birthdsy
